Sauvaphap a/p Ai Noi was born in Butterworth, Penang on 28th September 1978. She received her early education at SRJK Convent Butterworth, Penang (1985-1989). In 1990 till 1993, she continued her lower secondary education in Sekolah Menengah Dato’ Onn, Butterworth. Later in 1994, she joined the fully boarding school in Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Halim, Jitra, Kedah. In 1995, she studied at Sekolah Menengah Sultanah Asma, Alor Setar. She had her diploma studies (1996-1999) in Medical Lab Technology in Universiti Sains Malaysia (Caw. Kubang Kerian) before joining Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology, Universiti Putra Malaysia in 1999. She graduated with a Second Class Upper Honours Degree in 2000. During her undergraduate studies, she had won two major awards; The Young Scientist Award by MSMBB in 2002 and B.Braun Award also in 2002. She had been sponsored by the UNESCO for Postgraduate Inter-University Course in Biotechnology 2005-2006 and had undergone 12 months training in Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, Japan.

She started her Master’s Degree in July 2003 and attended seminar in 14th National Biotechnology Seminar publishing posted entitled “Production of cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) by locally isolated bacteria using gelatinised starch as carbon source”. In March 2005, she participated and publicized the poster entitled “Rapid screening method for alkalophilic cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase)-producing bacteria” in Exhibition of Invention, Research and Innovation UPM, 2005 under Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences. In October 2006, the same poster was sent for exhibition in Enzyme Engineering XVIII, Korea. She had won a Gold Medal in the Exhibition of Invention, Research and Innovation UPM 2006with the poster entitled “Optimisation of CGTase Production by RSM Approach”. During her Master studies, she assited laboratory assistants as demonstrator in handling Environmental Biotechnology, Instrumentation and Fermentation Technology and Bioreactor Design laboratory classes.
